Inspector Growth Lab is an independent site for people who own home inspection companies and want more inspections on the calendar without signing a contract to find out whether anything works.
Who writes it
Steve Meitler is the editor. He has spent years running marketing for local service businesses, home inspection firms among them, and has read enough proposals aimed at inspectors to know what is always missing from them: numbers an owner can check. Everything published here is written to be checked, including the parts that are inconvenient for a marketing company to admit.
Where the benchmark numbers come from
The benchmark report is built from public Google Business Profile listings. We run Google Maps searches for home inspectors in every state, keep the public business fields on each listing (review count, star rating, website link, listed hours, category, location), remove duplicates by Google place, and compute the statistics from what is left. Nothing comes from behind a login, and no reviewer names or personal details are stored. The dataset currently holds 27,687 listings across 51 states and is refreshed monthly. At that scale some listings are stale or miscategorized, so read every figure as accurate to within a point or two, not to the decimal.
Editorial rules
- No pay-to-play. Nobody can buy a mention, a recommendation or a placement here. Software and associations named in the guides are named because inspectors use them, not because anyone paid.
- Every number is sourced, either to our own dataset or to a primary source such as Google's documentation or a government statistics release. Where a guide gives an opinion, it says so.
- Guides are written for an owner who is under a crawlspace by 9 a.m. If a step cannot be done by a working inspector, delegated to a scheduler, or automated once and left alone, it does not go in.
- We date every guide and update it when the platforms change rather than quietly rewriting history.
- Nothing here promises a result. Marketing changes your odds, and the guides say where the odds are and where they are not.
How the free trial works
The site is paid for by the marketing work we do for inspection companies. We offer every service as a free 14-day trial because an inspector should watch the phone ring before paying anyone. You text or call, tell us which one you want to try (Google Ads, Meta ads, AI search optimization, local SEO and Google profile work, a website, social media, review generation, missed-call text-back, email and SMS, bookkeeping, or cold-call appointment setting into agent offices), and we build it in your own accounts, usually inside 48 hours. It runs for two weeks. No card is held and nothing renews. At the end you keep it at a price quoted before the trial started, switch to a different service, or stop.
